I really must try and post here more often as it's been a while! I felt the need to comment on the recent announcement regarding the closure of RAF Mildenhall.
When I first heard the news it immediately brought back memories of the great airshows I attended there, particularly in the late 1980's and early 90's.
I'm sure many readers can recall those shows, one that stood out to me (and I can't remember the exact year) was when an SR71 Blackbird took part in the show while the second aircraft based at Mildenhall was on static display.
Although the closure is about four years away it will undoubtedly be devastating news for the many people who's living depends on this airfield and it's operations.
At least it looks like Lakenheath is to remain for the foreseeable future with the announcement of F35's eventually being based there.
I was also recently saddened by the news that this years 'Airwaves 2015' publication may be the last. For many airband listeners, this publication really is essential reading with it's extremely comprehensive airband frequency listings. Let's hope it can carry on in some way and I'm sure the airband community will lend whatever support we can to it's continued publication.
